1. Introduction
Welcome to Forage. Forage is an AI-powered cooking app that identifies ingredients from photos and generates personalised recipe suggestions.
This Privacy Policy explains how Forage ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, stores and protects your personal information when you use the Forage mobile application and associated services.
By using Forage, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.
Forage is operated by Byron Adu, ABN 64 481 958 542, based in Australia.
2. What Information We Collect
2.1 Information you provide directly: - Email address and password when you create an account - Dietary preferences, meal type preferences and measurement preferences you set during onboarding or in settings - Pantry staples you add to your My Kitchen list - Recipes you choose to save
2.2 Information generated through your use of Forage: - Photos of your kitchen, fridge or pantry that you upload for scanning - Scan history — a record of your previous scans and the ingredients identified - Shopping list items you add from recipe results - App usage patterns and feature interactions
2.3 Information we do NOT collect: - Your precise location - Contacts or address book data - Financial or payment information (handled directly by Google Play or Apple — we never see your card details) - Any data from other apps on your device
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide the core Forage service — identifying ingredients from your photos and generating personalised recipe suggestions
- Personalise your recipe results based on your dietary preferences and meal type settings
- Save your scan history, saved recipes, shopping list and My Kitchen staples across sessions
- Manage your account and authenticate your identity
- Improve the accuracy and quality of ingredient identification and recipe generation
- Communicate with you about your account, subscription and any service updates
- Process your subscription through Google Play Billing or Apple StoreKit
We do not use your data for advertising purposes. Forage does not sell your personal information to any third party.
4. How We Share Your Information
We share your information only where necessary to provide the Forage service:
4.1 Anthropic (AI processing) Photos you upload and ingredient lists are sent to Anthropic's Claude API for AI processing. Anthropic uses this data solely to generate responses and does not retain or train on your personal data beyond what their own privacy policy permits. Anthropic's privacy policy is available at anthropic.com/privacy.
4.2 Pexels (recipe imagery) Recipe names are sent to Pexels to retrieve relevant food photography for display within the app. No personal information is shared with Pexels. Pexels' privacy policy is available at pexels.com/privacy-policy.
4.3 Google Play / Apple (payments) Subscription payments are processed by Google Play Billing (Android) or Apple StoreKit (iOS). We do not receive or store your payment card details. Google and Apple's respective privacy policies govern how they handle payment information.
4.4 Legal requirements We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in response to valid legal requests by public authorities.
We do not share your personal information with any other third parties.
5. How We Store Your Information
Your data is stored on secure servers provided by Replit. We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, alteration, disclosure or destruction.
Photos you upload are processed in real time and are not stored permanently on our servers beyond what is necessary for your scan history. Scan history is retained until you choose to delete it or close your account.
6. Data Retention
We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with the Forage service. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal or regulatory purposes.
You can delete individual scans, saved recipes and shopping list items at any time within the app. You can clear your My Kitchen list at any time in settings.
7. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal information:
- Access — request a copy of the personal information we hold about you
- Correction — request that we correct inaccurate or incomplete information
- Deletion — request that we delete your personal information
- Portability — request your data in a portable format
- Withdrawal of consent — withdraw consent to processing at any time

Australian users also have rights under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles. If you believe we have breached your privacy, you may lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at oaic.gov.au.
8. Children's Privacy
Forage is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
9. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes by posting the new policy within the app and updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Your continued use of Forage after any changes constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
